‘Train to Busan’ to premiere at Cannes

One of the most anticipated summer blockbusters this year is “Train to Busan,” South Korea’s first zombie-oriented apocalyptic horror film -- to premiere worldwide at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival before its nationwide release in Korea.

Korean media distributor NEW released new stills of the upcoming film Thursday, presenting a glimpse of what is to come.

Actor Gong Yoo will star as main lead within the dark travelogue as the horror of disease, confinement, and human nature gets unleashed within a high-speed train. Former member of K-pop girl group Wonder Girls Sohee will play the role of a high school student who claws her way to survival. Other noteworthy casts include actress Jung Yumi and actor Ma Dong-suk.

“Train to Busan” will be director Youn Sang-ho’s first live-action film after his acclaimed 2011 animation “The King of Pigs.”

The film is scheduled for premier during the festival’s Midnight Screening -- the festival’s out of competition section. The time slot has not been finalized yet.

The 2016 Cannes Film Festival will be held from May 11-22 in Cannes, France.
