Actor Park Hae-jin, busily shooting for the upcoming “Cheese in the Trap” TV drama since September, has elaborated on the amount of research he put into understanding main character Yoo Jung in an interview published Tuesday.

Park said, “I could see him in text, but to depict him as a 3-D life was confusing in some parts. I pore into the scripts to decide how to unwind his character.”

According to the original online cartoon, Yoo Jung is an affluent college senior who is kind and caring on the outside, but manipulative and egocentric inside.

“I think in the beginning I set a wall around the character, building him up to something more difficult than he is,” said Park. “As the filming progresses I feel like I’m getting closer to Yoo Jung.”

He also credited director Lee Yoon-jung for her apt advice.

“I often have long conversations with director Lee before going on the set in order to fully grasp what I should be delivering,” he said, adding this was the friendliest team he has worked with so far.

“Cheese in the Trap” will premiere on Jan. 4, next year.

Rising rookie actress Kim Go-eun will play female lead character Hong Seol, who sees through Yoo Jung’s duality.
