Jun Ji-hyun, JYJ to receive Korean Popular Culture and Arts Award

Actress Jun Ji-hyun will receive Presidential Commendation for the first time since her debut in 1997 at this year’s Korean Popular Culture and Arts Award, local news reported on Tuesday.

Boy trio JYJ, singer IU, actress Park Shin-hye and actor Lee Jong-suk will also be awarded with the Prime Minister’s Commendation at the coveted ceremony, which will be held at the National Theater of Korea on Thursday.

Jun, whose latest flick “Assassination” garnered over 12-million viewers, will be honored for her memorable silver and small screen roles, including “My Sassy Girlfriend” (2001), “The Thieves” (2012) “Berlin” (2012) and TV drama “My Love From the Star” (2013).

Korean Popular Culture and Arts Award, organized by Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and state-run Korea Creative Content Agency, is an annual award ceremony to recognize the accomplishment of artists who have contributed to development of hallyu.

Thirty artists will be honored this year with several titles, including the Culture Medal, the Presidential Commendation, Prime Minister’s Commendation and Minister’s Commendation.

K-pop girl group Girls Day, a recipient of Minister’s Commendation, and Kim Junsu of JYJ will perform during the ceremony.
