Singer-actor Park Yoo-chun of K-pop trio JYJ is set to work as a public service worker at Gangnam-gu Office starting from Thursday, according to the Defense Ministry on Tuesday.

The 29-year-old star began his four-week basic military training on Aug. 27 at an Army training camp in Nonsan, South Chungcheong Province. He will serve for two years as a public service worker, a substitute for active mandatory military service, due to his asthma.

Prior to his enlistment, Park said, “It was a blessing to be able to spend every moment filled with your love and support,” bidding farewell to fans at the “2015 JYJ Membership Week” fan meeting held two days ahead of his enlistment.
