South Korean period film “The Throne," starring actors Yoo Ah-in and Song Gang-ho, is drawing attention from both critics and moviegoers, particularly concerning the possibility of extending on the success of Korean summer hits “Veteran” and “Assassination.”

“The Throne” features the historic tale of a tragic Joseon era crown prince who dies of dehydration and hunger locked inside a box by his king father.

Seasoned actor from the million-plus admission films “The Attorney” (2013) and “The Host” (2006) Song Gang-ho will play the cruel King Yeongjo, while another million-plus “Veteran” actor Yoo Ah-in will act the part of the prince.

The movie is set to release on Sept. 16.

Locally produced “The Throne,” “The Accidental Detective” and “The Long Way Home” and Hollywood movies “Maze Runner: Scorch Trials” and “Everest” are expected to vie for the top box-office spot this month.
