Singer-actor Park Yoo-chun of boy group JYJ joined the Korean Army as a conscript Thursday afternoon, beginning his two-year mandatory military service.

The 29-year-old star arrived at an Army training camp in Nonsan, South Chungcheong Province around 2 p.m. to begin his term. According to reports, he was wearing a white shirt, a black baseball hat and sunglasses, accompanied by his family.

Earlier, he had expressed his intention to join the military quietly without an official admission ceremony. However, some 300 fans from China, Japan and Korea still gathered outside the camp to see the singer enter the service. Park waved goodbye to some of the lucky fans who got to see him before he disappeared inside.

His label posted a video of Park ahead of the enlistment saying “Goodbye, I will be back,” on its Instagram account.

Park, starting Thursday, will receive five weeks of basic military training at the site. And after the training, he will serve as a public service worker in an office as a substitute for active duty service at a military camp, due to his asthma.

He is the second to enlist among the JYJ trio. Kim Jae-joong joined the military in March.

Park is tentatively scheduled to be discharged from his service on Aug 27, 2017.

“For me, it was a blessing to be able to spend every moment filled with your love and support,” said Park during the last official fan event “Membership Week” on Tuesday. “I hope the day will come soon when all three members come together on stage.”

Park recently starred in TV drama “The Girl Who Sees Smells” alongside actress Shin Se-kyung.

All able-bodied men aged between 18 and 35 are required to serve in the military for about two years in a country that is still technically at war with North Korea.
