Broken Valentine vocalist Van dies at 33

Vocalist Van, whose real name is Kim Kyung-min, of Korean rock band Broken Valentine died on Monday. He was 33 years old.

“Van, who has been with us for the past 13 years, died from an unexpected accident,” his label Rolling Culture One said through band’s Facebook page on Monday.

Details of Kim’s death are unclear, but local news reported on Tuesday that Kim died following a drowning accident while on summer vacation with friends.
Kim’s funeral procession will be on Wednesday.

Fellow stars mourned for Kim on Tuesday. “He was the person who always took care of me, but he left so suddenly,” K-pop singer Younha said via Twitter.

“I respectfully express my condolences,” TV personality and musician Namgung Yeon said on his Facebook.

Kim made his debut as part of the five-member rock band in 2002 under the name “6. August.” They renamed themselves to Blue Valentine in 2007 and released the self-produced EP album “Calling You” in 2009. Blue Valentine made their names known by starring in KBS survival program “Top Band” in 2011.
