YG Entertainment CEO Yang Hyun-suk and the label’s headlining singer Psy are set for a fresh start to emphasize Psy’s unique musical color in upcoming song releases, local news reported on Tuesday.

According to the report, Yang has been frequently meeting with Psy, 37, implying the global star’s comeback is coming close. “For the past two years, Psy was confused of his identity -- between being a Korean singer or an American singer,” Yang was quoted as saying. “I was experiencing the same too. I tried to take into consideration both Korea and the U.S., when creating the songs -- ‘Gentleman’ and ‘Hangover’ -- that came after ‘Gangnam Style.’ But in doing so, I wasn’t able to fully express Psy’s unique charm and style in these songs.”

Psy agreed to Yang’s position and is also gearing up for a fresh start. “It was a great experience to travel around the world and being treated as a global star,” Psy was quoted as saying. “But the happiest time of my life was going around the university festivals and the breath of young people on stages.”

Psy, whose viral sensation “Gangnam Style” video and song made him a global star, is hoping to continue his music career here. He is currently preparing for new songs to return to the music scene, an acquaintance of Psy was quoted as saying. The exact date is yet to be confirmed.

The singer made his debut in 2001 and instantly became a global star in 2012 when he released his mega hit single “Gangnam Style.” The “Gangnam Style” music video garnered 2 billion views, setting the record as the first-ever video on YouTube to achieve the feat. Since then he has dropped other songs “Gentleman” and “Hangover,” which had decent ratings and acclaims but was nowhere popular as “Gangnam Style.”
