Kim Jun-su, a member of the South Korean boyband JYJ and a musical actor, was acquitted of fraud in a case brought him to court at the end of last year.

The scandal started from the promissory note written when Kim invested in the development of Toscana Hotel, which Kim owns, on Jejudo Island.

Two provincial construction companies that joined Kim to complete Toscana Hotel accused him of fraud; the allegation surrounding Kim was that he wrote an IOU promissory note to borrow $5 billion from them for the completion of the hotel, and failed to pay construction fees.

Kim’s lawyer pointed out that Kim’s duplicate promissory note clearly negated Kim’s liability to pay the money as it stated at the bottom that “I acknowledge that this promissory note is for use as a company financial document and is not the actual amount to be reimbursed.”

In the promissory note the two accusers submitted to the court, the key line is not seen.

As the Jeju district court reached a conclusion that the documents of the accusers were weak evidence to order Kim payment, Kim’s lawyer countersued the two for defamation and false accusations.
