Stars attend Cotton Day 2015

A cotton-textile fashion show opened in Seoul Tuesday to promote American cotton products, attended by ministry officials from both Korea and the U.S. including U.S. Ambassador Mark Lippert.

The event is hosted by Cotton Council International, which promotes American cotton-based textile products across the world and is affiliated with the National Cotton Council of America.

Newly inaugurated CCI president, Dahlen Hancock said, "Even though cotton is a raw material, it is the best present given by nature that can continue to be an eco-friendly textile."

Korean officials Kim Joon, chairman of Spinners and Weavers Association of Korea, and Yoon Soo-young, vice chairman of the Korean Federation of Textile Industries and Kim Hwa-young, department head from Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy were also present.

The fashion and global marketing event, named Cotton Day, aspires to promote "cotton as an eco-friendly step, raising the demand of cotton textiles as part of a high-quality lifestyle," a CCI official said.

This year's Korean ambassador for Cotton Day is hip-hop trio Epik High, which performed songs during the fashion and marketing event.

Other stars who attended were Choi Kang-hee, Park Ha-sun, So Yi-hyun, JeA, Kim Yoo-ri and Kim Min-seo. Celebrated Korean fashion design duo Mac & Logan showcased denim-based clothes at the event.

Previous celebrity ambassadors for Cotton Day have been actress Ha Ji-won, singer Lee Hyo-ri and celebrity couple Jung Hye-young and Sean Noh.

Cotton Day 2015 is the 14th edition of the event in Korea, which has been held every May since 2002.

In the lead up to the event, organizers held a design competition for the "2015 Cotton T-shirt." The winning design was displayed at the Westin Chosun Hotel in Seoul, where the event took place.

Cotton Day has also been held in Japan, Taiwan and Thailand, where it promotes American cotton textiles as part of a comfortable and high-quality lifestyle.
