IU donates 100 million won to mark Children’s Day

South Korean singer-actress IU made a donation of 100 million won ($92,300) to a charity organization that helps underprivileged children, media reported Tuesday, South Korea’s Children’s Day.

The 21-year-old singer celebrated the occasion the day before, when she donated 100 million won to ChildFund Korea.

“Today is Children’s Day and while children with parents receive love and gifts from their parents, many underprivileged children end up spending the day lonely,” an official from the organization told the Star News. “IU donated money for these children.”

The official also said IU is a regular volunteer at the center caring for disabled children.

IU debuted in 2008 with the single “Lost Child.” The K-pop starlet is known for her popular songs “You and I” and “Good Day.” She also made a successful acting debut through KBS TV drama “Dream High” in 2011 and starred in the popular TV drama “You are the Best, Lee Soon-shin” in 2013.

She is currently filming the KBS2 star-studded drama “Producer” alongside actor Kim Soo-hyun, Gong Hyo-jin and Cha Tae-hyun.
