YG Entertainment CEO Yang Hyun-suk said girl group 2NE1’s comeback will depend on how its leader CL fares in the American music scene.

“Depending on CL’s success, 2NE1 may also have a chance with American audiences,” said Yang. “Right now my priority is to fully support CL’s solo activities in the States.”

The leader of YG’s girl group 2NE1 has been working on a solo album to be released in the U.S. in summer, with the help of manager Scooter Braun, who assisted international K-pop star Psy’s U.S. debut.

CL, 24, is fluent in four languages including English and can sing and rap with a distinctive Asian style -- a unique set of characteristics to help boost her profile in the world‘s biggest music market.

“Her album is almost ready. I cannot say how it will be received, since the U.S. market is different from Korea’s,” said Yang.

Meanwhile, 2NE1 is planning to release a new album once CL has launched her solo project in the U.S.
