JYJ member Junsu shed tears during the recording of EBS’ music program “Space Sympathy,” local media reported Tuesday.

Shortly before bidding goodbye to his fans onstage, the 28-year-old singer paused for a moment as he could not hold back his tears. His fans also burst into tears upon seeing their idol cry.

“I am a singer, but I was not able to say hello to you through music programs. But here I am after six years. Nice to meet you all,” Junsu said during the opening of the show.

Junsu’s TV appearance as a singer came for the first time in six years since his group JYJ -- Jaejoong, Yoochun and Junsu -- was prevented from appearing on Korean major broadcasters’ music programs for what many view as unfair.

K-pop insiders have claimed that Korean broadcasters have refrained from inviting them to their shows for fear of offending SM Entertainment that has A-list groups such as TVXQ, Girls’ Generation, Super Junior and EXO.

The trio filed a lawsuit against their then-label SM Entertainment in 2009 to leave then-quintet TVXQ. TVXQ now consists of Yunho and Changmin.

JYJ won a legal battle with the nation’s biggest agency, but still has trouble finding its way back on TV.

“I thought that there would be no opportunities to appear on TV music shows ... I appreciate EBS and scriptwriters for ‘Space Sympathy’ that allowed me onstage,” he said.

“I will remember every single scene from today’s show because I don’t know when I can have this kind of opportunity again. I will even remember the air here.”

While performing his track “Uphill” for encore, he ended up shedding tears and asked a production staff to halt the recording for a while.

“I was able to release albums thanks to many fans. And I am finally here. It is really quite difficult. I will sing this song thinking of the road that all of you walked with me, one step at a time, overcoming so many challenges and finally standing on this stage.”

The EBS’ “Space Sympathy” featuring Junsu is scheduled to air on April 30 at 12:10 a.m.
