South Korean pop idol CL has ranked second on Time magazine’s online poll for the 100 most influential people, the final results showed Tuesday.

The U.S.-based magazine puts out the annual list of 100 people across a range of fields, reflecting their profile and influences.

Russian president Vladimir Putin topped this year’s online poll by securing 6.95 percent of votes, and K-pop singer CL came in second with a 6.9 percent share.

CL was leading the poll until April 6 with Putin trailing behind in the second place. The two were tied on April 8, two days before the online poll closed.

A string of American pop stars made it to the poll based on online popularity. Lady Gaga ranked third with 2.6 percent, followed by Rihanna fourth with 1.9 percent.

Veteran pop star Beyonce ranked ninth, while Catholic spiritual leader Pope Francis ranked 10th, and U.S. President Barack Obama came in 11th.

CL, whose real name is Lee Chae-rin, is the leader of 2NE1, a K-pop girl group which debuted in 2009 in South Korea.

The group put out its second regular album “Crush” in February this year, which sold over 5,000 copies in a week and ranked No. 61 on the Billboard 200, setting a record among K-pop groups.

From early this year, CL is preparing to make a debut in the U.S., working with Scooter Braun, who runs two record labels and has helped Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande and Psy make hit albums.

Aside from the online poll results, Time is set to release an official list of 100 influential people on its own panel on Thursday.
