K-pop singer Suzy is the latest celebrity to join the large-scale charity campaign "Honor Society" through fundraising and the social welfare institute Community Chest of Korea.

The idol singer signed on to make a substantial donation of 100 million won ($90,612) over the next five years.

"I registered because I want to help people who are living in difficult circumstances, at least in a small way, through my donation," said the idol singer. "I particularly want to help the cause of children suffering from cancer and incurable diseases."

Founded in December 2007, the "Honor Society" campaign has recruited the support of almost 800 members, including seven celebrities. Suzy is the second K-pop girl group member to register -- Girls' Generation singer Yoona has also signed up for the cause.

Suzy signed on as an "Honor Society" member in a public fundraising meeting held in Gwangju Wednesday.

All registrants of the campaign must agree to donate at least 100 million won, with a minimum starting donation of 3 million won. Participants must donate at least 20 million won annually to maintain their membership in the program.

Suzy, 20, has previously shown interest in charitable causes, particularly towards helping children with cancer, such as leukemia. She has also previously supported children in orphanages and elderly people living alone.

Last April, the idol singer, who is in a relationship with actor Lee Min-ho, made an anonymous contribution of 50 million won to the Community Chest of Korea in response to the Sewol ferry sinking earlier the same month.

"Honor Society," hosted by Community Chest of Korea, has received an estimated cumulative donation sum of about 87.5 billion won.
