Fashion magazine W Korea released photos on Thursday of CL, a member of K-pop girl group 2NE1, wearing Korea’s traditional hanbok clothing.

The singer, who first suggested the concept of wearing hanbok, said, “(Foreigners) are mostly aware of Japanese or Chinese culture, but they seem to lack the understanding about Korean culture.”

“Before we jump into the U.S. market in earnest, I wanted to take a photo in the hanbok,” she added.

Instead of wearing a modern-fusion style, she opted for a traditional style. “This may look a little different from what other actresses normally wear. However, I would be happy if this can make people newly think about hanbok,” she said.

Asked about making inroads into the U.S. music market, CL said, “At first, I just thought it would be fun. However, over time, it is becoming a great challenge. This is something I never experienced in the past.”

More of her photos and interview are available in the magazine’s April issue and on its official website.
