Travel packages that lure Japanese tourists who hope to capture Korean singer Jaejoong‘s last moments before he enlists in the army are becoming a headache for the “hallyu” star.

Some Japanese tour agencies have recently rolled out three-day travel packages called “Jaejoong enlistment tour,” which guarantees travelers an opportunity to say farewell to Jaejoong at the enlistment ceremony in late March, Japanese sources said.

The 29-year-old idol will enlist in the nearly two-year mandatory military service on March 31. It hasn’t been confirmed where his enlistment ceremony will be held, but he will receive his weeks long training before going on active military duty.

Tourism industry insiders say that such high-priced tour packages are “excessive marketing gimmicks” designed to take advantage of the idol’s high-profile enlistment.

“The biggest concern is that fans might feel disappointed when they cannot see Jaejoong at the site on March 31, and it could take a toll on the singer,” a source said.

Jaejoong’s label C-Jes Entertainment voiced its concern over such “farewell” tour products, which were not authorized by the agency.

“We have nothing to do with the tour packages, so we have warned Jaejoong’s fans through JYJ’s Japanese website that fans should take extra care when buying such tour products,” said an official from the label.

“And Jaejoong wants a low-key enlistment,” the official added.

Ahead of joining the army, Jaejoong and JYJ members will hold a two-day fan event, titled “The Beginning of the End,” on March 28-29 at Korea University in Seoul.

Several other pop stars are waiting to join the military service this month, including Super Junior members Shindong and Sungmin, who will enlist in the army on March 24 and 31, respectively.
