Rookie K-pop band Red Velvet, which recently added a new member, has received a good start with its new album.

After releasing its first EP “Ice Cream Cake” at noon on Tuesday, the girl group topped major real-time music charts, including Bugs Music, Olleh Music and Genie Music, with the eponymous lead track on the day of its release.

The track also propelled the quintet to No.1 spot on the iTunes charts in three Asian countries -- Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia.

Red Velvet was launched in 2014 with the debut single “Happiness” and initially started as a four-member group by SM Entertainment, home to a number of high-profile K-pop acts, including EXO, Girls‘ Generation and Super Junior. New member Yeri recently joined the former quartet, which also includes Seulgi, Irene, Wendy and Joy.

The group will showcase its live performance for the lead track and offer a glimpse of its ordinary life through Naver Music’s “Red Velvet‘s Ice Cream TV” at 9 p.m. on Tuesday.

The album’s physical release is also scheduled on the same day.
