With K-pop stylists holding fast to the monochromatic red carpet trend, girl groups vied for attention with varied textures, daring cuts and lots of leg-show at the 2014 Gaon Chart K-pop Awards on Wednesday.

The annual music awards ceremony, which took place at Seoul's Olympic Gymnastics Arena, was a star-studded event attended by veteran bands like g.o.d and newer faces like Winner.

Kara (OSEN)

Kara oozed confidence in silver-embellished black outfits, complete with patent leather lace-up platform boots. The singers also sported high-waist pants and matching silver accessories.

Kara's style team made sure to keep the all-black look interesting, dressing Heo Young-ji in mixed-textile ripped leggings and Han Seung-yeon in a one-sleeve halterneck top.

In contrast, "Like a Cat" AOA presented a more uniform image, dressed in near-identical black oufits of high leg boots, PVC hot pants and lace tops. The group won the Hot Performance of the Year award.

Apink, who won an Artist of the Year award, put in a modest appearance, but made sure to show as much leg as possible. Member Yoon Bo-mi raised eyebrows with hot pants that could have passed as a leotard, while Park Cho-rong wore a pelmet skirt daringly short even by K-pop girl group standards.

The "LUV" band is soon to hold their first solo concerts on Friday and Saturday.

Discovery of the Year awardee EXID went by the same rulebook of monochromatic block colors in understated-but-revealing short dresses.

Girl's Day swung the other direction in radiant all-white dresses. The "Something" singers graced the red carpet minus bandmate Hyeri in their signature side-slit, long-sleeved sheath dresses, discarding the heavy velvet for a delicate white-on-champagne polka dot print.

Hyeri appeared separately arm-in-arm with boy band Super Junior's Leeteuk as hosts of the evening, clad in a boatneck, floor-sweeping lace white gown.

New Girl Group of the Year winners Mamamoo, who debuted in summer last year, made a more glamorous entrance in elaborate gold and silver Grecian-inspired sequined gowns.
