Malaysian girls who hugged members of the K-pop boy band B1A4 at a fan event were called in for questioning, Malaysian papers reported Thursday.

The Department of Islamic Development summoned the girls and warned that they would be arrested unless they went in for questioning within a week, according to the reports.

The move comes after B1A4 members hugged Islamic female fans and kissed them on their foreheads in public at the event, held on Saturday in Kuala Lumpur.

A video clip of the incident later went viral on YouTube, prompting the government to accuse B1A4 of disrespecting Islamic rules and to file a complaint against the organizer of the event.

Malaysia, a predominantly Muslim country, forbids couples from being intimate in public.

In response to the uproar, B1A4’s label, WM Entertainment, explained that the interaction with the fans was part of a program to recreate popular scenes from Korean dramas.
