Lee Min-ho’s new movie to hit Canadian, U.S. screens

Lee Min-ho’s upcoming movie “Gangnam 1970” will be released in selected cinemas in Canada and the U.S. on Feb. 6, the movie’s distributor Showbox-Mediaplex announced Tuesday.

The film, which will also be distributed across Asia, is directed by Yoo Ha, known for noir action films “A Dirty Carnival” and “One Upon a Time in High School.”

“Gangnam 1970” is set to be released in China, Myanmar, Singapore and Vietnam on Jan. 29. It will also be screen in Taiwan on the following day. In February, the flick will hit the big screen in Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.

According to the distributor, the movie will also be shown at the European Film Market that begins in Germany on Feb. 5.

In the movie Lee plays the gangster Kim Jong-dae who hopes to cash in on the development of Seoul’s now-affluent Gangnam area. Along with Lee, actor Kim Rae-won takes on the role of gangster and Kim Jong-dae’s childhood friend Baek Yong-gi.

“Gangnam 1970” is set for release at local theaters on Jan. 21.
