Boy groups dominate 2014 MBC Music Festival

Hallyu boy bands dominated the 2014 MBC Music Festival on Wednesday with special performances.

Hosted by entertainer Kim Sung-ju, actress Lee Yu-ri, Sistar’s Soyou and Girl’s Day member Hyeri, the year-end music program featured 44 K-pop groups including EXO, 2PM, BEAST, Infinite and B1A4.

Divided into two teams -- a blue team and white team -- the singers vied for better performances.

The music festival got off to a start with a competition stage of GOT7 and BTS, followed by a solo match between Super junior member Kyuhyun and SHINee’s Taemin.

Hallyu group EXO members also showcased their talent at the music festival with various collaboration stages. Baekhyun and Chanyeol sang Korean folk songs with Infinite member L.

EXO member Kai also showed a powerful dance performance with SHINee’s Taemin.

During the finale stage, TVXQ, a two-member group, presented two songs, “Suri Suri” and “Something.”

The winner team was decided by online viewers’ vote at the end of the show. While the white team won the first half of the show, the blue team defeated its counterpart with 77,359 votes, leading by about 5,000 vote.
