Rookie K-pop boy group GOT7 seems to be gaining popularity in Japan as its debut EP “Around the World,” released last week, ranked No. 3 on a Japanese music chart on Wednesday.

On Sunday, the album took the No. 2 spot on the Oricon Daily chart, racking up the most Oricon points among K-pop idol groups that have debuted in Japan since 2013.

The EP also ranked No. 1 on Tower Records’ Weekly Sales chart during the period of Oct. 20-26.

The rookie group drew a great deal attention in Japan even before its debut there. “Around The World” was the most-reserved album at Japanese music store Tower Records two days before its release.

The EP’s lead singles “Around the World” and “So Lucky,” prereleased on Sept. 8 and Oct. 6, respectively, both topped Japan’s biggest mobile ringtone site, Reco Chalk. “So Lucky” was written and composed by 2PM member Jun.K.

GOT7 met some 10,000 Japanese fans at a fan event on Sunday held to mark its debut.

It will wrap up its first concert tour in Japan, the “GOT7 First Japan Tour,” at the Makuhari Messe Event Hall, Tokyo, on Nov. 5 and 6. Jun. K will appear as a special guest.

GOT7 -- JB, Mark, Jr., Jackson, Youngjae, Bambam and Yugyeom -- debuted in Japan on Jan. 16 under JYP Entertainment, one of the largest labels in Korea.
