The music video for South Korean rapper Psy's new song "Hangover" surpassed 100 million views on YouTube on Thursday, a little over a month after its release.

As of 8 a.m. on Thursday, the video had some 123.9 million views on video-sharing site YouTube, 39 days after the video's release on June 9. With this, Psy became the first singer to top the 100 million mark in YouTube views for the third time in a row following "Gangnam Style" and "Gentleman."

This proved Psy's steady global influence even though it took longer for "Hangover" to hit the miletone than it took for his previous hit songs.

Earlier this month, "Hangover" became the most viewed Korean pop video on YouTube in the first half of this year.

The music video, which was shot in Seoul, depicts South Korea's drinking culture and nightlife. In the video, Psy and American hip-hop star Snoop Dogg have drinks to cure their hangovers and visit some late night places such as a karaoke, a convenience store and a billiard hall.

Psy rose to international stardom in 2012 with his global mega-hit "Gangnam Style," which set a record by topping 2 billion views on YouTube on May 31, 2014. "Gentleman" surpassed the 700-million mark last month.  (Yonhap)
