iKON’s ‘Goodbye Road’ tops local, global charts
(Yonhap) |
iKON’s new single “Goodbye Road” topped both Korean and global charts upon its release on Monday evening.
Representing the act, YG Entertainment said Tuesday that the song, the lead track off the group’s new album “New Kids: The Final,” has topped six music streaming charts in Korea including Melon, Bugs, Mnet and Genie.
The mid-tempo breakup ballad has also peaked on iTunes charts in 25 countries including Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Greece, Hong Kong and Indonesia. The band has broken its own record set by its past hit “Killing Me,” which had topped iTunes charts in 24 countries.
“New Kids: The Final,” the act’s second EP, is the final installation of the group’s “New Kids” series, which began in May last year with “New Kids: Begin,” followed by “New Kids: Return” and “New Kids: Continue.”
With a relatively stripped-down and mellow approach compared to the boisterous “Killing Me,” “Goodbye Road” flits between rhythms and instrumentals as vocalists emotionally croon about how failed love leaves nothing but scars. The song was co-written by B.I and Bobby.
iKON will kick off promotions in Korea by performing “Goodbye Road” on MBC’s “Show! Music Core” on Saturday.
