Sooyoung of Girls’ Generation is going solo with a winter single, more than a year after the girl group released its last album with all its members in August 2017, “Holiday Night.

Titled “Winter Breath,” the digital single has the Girls’ Generation vocalist’s fingerprints all over it. She co-produced the song with two teams of songwriters, Command Freaks and Day & Night.

“Winter Breath” will deviate from the upbeat, bubblegum dance pop of Girls’ Generation, opting instead for a more contemplative theme. The lyrics wallow in the winter blues, singing of gloomy sentiments of the season.

Sooyoung’s first solo effort will be available on major streaming sites, including Genie, Melon, Naver Music, on Thursday at 6 p.m. The accompanying music video will be revealed simultaneously at the same time on YouTube and other official social media channels.

In October 2017, Sooyoung parted ways with S.M. Entertainment, under which she debuted with Girls’ Generation in 2007, to pursue individual projects. Despite the departure of Sooyoung, as well as two other members, Seohyun and Tiffany, Girls’ Generation has yet to announce its disbandment.
