Sporting his newly white blonde hair, which sadly won’t last a month, BTOB’s Changsub is readying for his upcoming enlistment.

Set to begin his mandatory military service on Jan. 14, Changsub said with his usual candor that he didn’t have any worries about enlistment.

“Actually, I feel rather numb about the enlistment. Maybe it will serve as a time for me to regroup myself,” said the vocalist during a recent interview for his new album with The Korea Herald in Seoul.

Asked what he wants to do most before taking a break from the showbiz world, he answered without any hesitation, “I just want to take a rest, a real, genuine one,” adding that he hasn’t been able to take time off from his work since his debut.

“The last activity on my official schedule ends on Jan. 6, and until Jan. 13, I plan to put everything down and just rest,” he added.

Having always been an undeniable talent, certain in his musical convictions, Changsub said his biggest strength as a musician was his sincerity.

When the topic turns to music, he gets super serious, carefully contemplating for each of his word choice.

“Once I was asked if I wanted to be a celebrity or a singer. I told that person that I certainly wanted to be a singer. As a singer, I always sing, write and record with sincerity, with certain messages.
Conveying those messages to people, that’s what good musicians should do, in my opinion,” he continued.

And with his first solo album in seven years, titled “Mark,” Changsub said he wanted to deal with various aspects of relationships, ranging from love to breakups.

He particularly recommended fans to listen to the album’s lead track “Gone” and “Ever,” both penned by Changsub himself, as those two best represented his current state of mind.

“Especially ‘Ever,’ that song will make people have lots of thoughts in their minds,” he said, expressing his hope that the group’s fan base Melody would hold on to the song during his time in the Army.

Capping off a triumphant year, Changsub will hold two solo concerts at the Yes 24 Live Hall in eastern Seoul on Jan. 5-6, which will be his last official schedule before enlistment. Once again telling his fans to be there, he said the upcoming event will be like his year-end party.

Wrapping up the interview, he promised fans to mature into a better artist when he returns to the group.

“I think my singing talent will get better in the military. I don‘t know how much time I would get to be alone in there, but I plan to tear down everything of me and build it again, start from scratch,” he said.

“I will receive lots of love from seniors, so don’t worry.”
