Actor Shin Sung-il dies of lung cancer

South Korean veteran actor Shin Sung-il died of lung cancer on Sunday at 2:25 a.m., according to local media reports. He was 81.

Shin was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer in June 2017 and had been undergoing chemotherapy at a hospital in South Jeolla Province.

Having debuted in 1960 with a role in the movie “Romance Papa,” the actor starred in an incredible tally of more than 520 movies, including hits “Barefooted Youth,” “Heavenly Homecoming to Stars” and “Winter Woman.” Shin recently participated in the 23rd Busan International Film Festival’s opening ceremony in October and walked the red carpet.

Shin is survived by his wife of 54 years, actress Um Aeng-ran, one son and two daughters.
