There have been many films and dramas centered on journalists, who chase stories and uncover the truth. Following are the starlets who stood out as journalists on-screen.

Son Ye-jin

Actress Son Ye-jin, who was dubbed as “Korea’s first love” for her pure and innocent image, made an unprecedented move when she decided to play a down-to-earth, strong TV reporter in 2008. In MBC drama “Spotlight,” she played reporter Seo Woo-jin, who covers social affairs beat for a major broadcaster. For stories, she will do anything from infiltrating into an absconder’s house to risking her life. Although the drama’s viewership was less-than satisfactory, Son’s acting spectrum expanded through the work.

Park Shin-hye

Hallyu star Park Shin-hye played a rookie TV reporter in a popular drama “Pinocchio” in 2014. She played Choi In-ha, a bright, strong and compassionate reporter, who can’t tell a lie. Whenever she lies, it makes her hiccup. Due to this condition, she can’t compromise with false or unfair incidents, and has to reveal the truth all the time. The drama gained momentum among people in 20s for Park depicting the hard life of a job seeker and a newcomer in a company.

Kim Ok-bin

Actress Kim Ok-bin, who made her name in Park Chan-wook’s film “Thirst,” returned as a reporter Gong Soo-kyung in the film “Minority Opinion” in 2013. In the film, she is an ardent reporter who tries to cover the truth behind the real-life incident “Yongsan disaster,” which claimed the lives of five tenants and one policeman in January 2009, as a result of a clash between the police and the tenants -- who protested against insufficient compensation for the redevelopment of the Yongsan neighborhood.

Park Bo-young

Actress Park Bo-young played rookie entertainment reporter Do Ra-hee in 2015 film “You Call it Passion.” In the flick, she plays an intern reporter, who has graduated from a prestigious university and lands an internship reporter position at a newspaper company. She begins her job with passion and enthusiasm, but soon finds out about the dirty secrets and corruption in the industry.

Moon Chae-won

Actress Moon Chae-won plays Kim Swan in MBC drama “Goodbye Mr. Black.” She becomes a reporter to help her first love, played by Lee Jin-wook, to clear false accusations against him. While her lovely and passionate character shines on the screen, the drama is suffering from low viewership rating due to its strong contender “Descendants of the Sun” in the same time slot.
