SM Entertainment on Wednesday said it set up a one-person company in China in March to help manage the activities of Lay, K-pop group EXO‘s Chinese member.

Dubbed “Lay Workshop,” the agency will support Lay’s career in China under an exclusive contract with the Korean agency SM Entertainment.

Lay said, “This establishment will be a pioneering example in nurturing the spirit of contract compliance. I firmly believe my activities in China will help give a boost to EXO and SM Entertainment, and I hope this will foster more cultural exchange between Korea and China.”

The Chinese EXO member is currently working on the filming of a Chinese movie called “Oh My God” (working title), with actress-turned-producer Zhang Ziyi.

Due to filming schedules, Lay did not attend many of EXO’s performances and press conferences in Korea.

Amid growing speculation over Lay’s possible defection, as other Chinese members Kris and Luhan did, SM’s decision to keep managing Lay is likely to be a relief to EXO fans.
