K-pop boy band Super Junior member Kyuhyun revealed Thursday that he hid his plan to debut as a solo artist from bandmates in an apparent concern that they might get jealous.

“I didn’t tell Super Junior members that I was preparing for my solo album. I thought that they might feel jealous, especially Yesung. But they heartily congratulated me,” Khyun said during the showcase held at the Yes24 Move Hall in western Seoul on Thursday.

The 26-year-old idol arranged the event to introduce his track “At Gwanghwamun” to reporters, critics and fans. He dropped the eponymous EP at midnight that day.

Defying Kyuhyun’s concerns, Yesung said that he was happy about him releasing a solo album, and others said that they loved him.

“Kangin asked me not to ignore him after I succeed (as a solo musician). Heechul checked out my music while resting in Japan. Eunhyuk and Donghae also said they listened to my track in London,” Kyuhun said of his strong relationship with his fellow members.

Super Junior members Ryeowook, Leeteuk and TVXQ member Changmin appeared at the event in support of Kyuhyun.

Later that day, Ryeowook left a comment on Twitter, releasing a photo of himself with Kyuhyun and Leeteuk at the showcase. “I have been through a lot, and this song consoles me,” he wrote.

The ballad song “At Gwanghwamun” topped the major music charts in Korea, immediately after its release.

About the surprising result, he said, “I didn’t expect it. Thank you. Many of my fans, and the fall season helped me.” His album is composed of seven mellow songs that harmonize well with the season.

Following the release of the album online, CDs are now also available. He will make the first TV appearance on Friday as a solo musician on the KBS music show “Music Bank.”
