South Korean TV actor Lee Min-ho, who is popular at home and in Chinese-speaking countries, received a warm welcome by thousands of fans when he arrived at a Taiwanese airport earlier this week, his management said Friday.

"The Taoyuan International Airport was crowded with thousands of fans coming to see Lee and a great number of journalists coming to take pictures of him at 10 p.m. Wednesday," his agency, Starhouse Entertainment, said in a release.

His arrival was televised live nationwide on the Next TV channel that night, it added.

Lee arrived in Taiwan to promote a product for which he is working as a TV commercial model after a visit to Shanghai for the same purpose. He was to fly to Thailand on Friday.

The actor rose to Asiawide stardom for his leading role in the South Korean soap series "Boys Over Flowers" in 2009. He is also known for his roles in "City Hunter" (2011) and "The Heirs" (2013). The upcoming film "Gangnam Blues" will feature Lee in his first leading role on the big screen. (Yonhap)
